NATIONAL PRIDE

The Jamaican National School Song

Jamaica land of beauty we promise faithfully
To serve thee with our talents
And bring our gifts to thee
Jamaica we will always
In honour of thy name
Work steadfastly and wisely
And never bring the shame
From riversides, to mountains from cane fields to the seas,
Our hearts salute Jamaica
Triumphant Proud and Free.

Together in our country
In love and brotherhood
We’ll work and play in freedom
As all God’s children should
With hands and hearts united
In thanks for everything
That God has given unto us
Together let us sing
From riversides, to mountains from cane fields to the seas,
Our hearts salute Jamaica
Triumphant Proud and Free.

The Jamaican Pledge
Before God and all mankind I pledge the love and loyalty of my heart
the wisdom and courage of my mind
the strength and vigour of my body
in the service of my fellow citizens,
I promise to stand up for Justice, Brotherhood and Peace,
to work diligently and creatively,
to think generously and honestly,
so that Jamaica may under God,
increase in beauty, fellowship and prosperity,
and play her part in advancing the welfare of the whole human race.
When I was in Primary school, these words were riveted into the psyche of me.
It was the core of what a Jamaican was, proud with the NO PROBLEM MON mentality. Now it is a different Jamaica land we love we are killing each other for senseless reasons. Who determines that my life is worth $1? Who says that it is time for me to die because I refuse to go into a gang for fire a gun?
Why is it that my government is not developing a system that looks into ways to curve the violence that is ravishing my country
How long will the tears to the poor be left ignored?
Why should parents be burying their children?
I tell you this look into all the culture that we are importing from foreign lands and there you will get a hint
To be continued…..
